A Senpai literally means mentor or teacher. Imagine the hierarchy of a dojo. Sensei is the Dojo’s Master. A Senpai is like a black belt in that Dojo.

My daily commute has many twists and turns. The curvy roads are a great recipe for accidents.
The turtle appeared out of no where. I skidded to the shoulder and pulled over. I instantly thought, “this guy is gonna die on the road.”

Normally, I don’t pull over to help someone. Plus, the turtle didn’t deserve my help. He didn’t ask for it. He couldn’t return the favor.

But I did it anyway. It felt spectacular.

The old man shook in his bed as he breathed heavily. His shriveled arms, too weak to fully extend, pointed towards his wife and children around him. As if he’s acknowledging them with his right finger.

The heart monitor beeps. Slowly and repetitively, it beeps.

The man in the hospital bed looks up to the ceiling. The florescent lights shine to reveal a man who’s seen years of toil and turmoil, victory and achievement.

He has failed. He has succeeded. He is at the end of his journey.
